001 & 002/365

001/365

Ok, my schedule is going to be messed up for a few days so I am going to start and play "catch-up" all at the same time.

This picture starts off my day 1...

No, this wasn't taken underwater.  This is my 'Grunt' photo of the day. (I grunted when I saw it)  I was playing with my camera the night before and forgot to adjust the White Balance from 'Tungsten Light' to 'Daylight'.  T'is a lovely shade of blue to be sure, just not what I was looking for in this photo.

So, off to the photo editing software to see if I could 'fix' it...

A minor increase in the White Balance Temperature, a little tweak up in Brightness, and down in Contrast and...

Lesson for the day... check settings...

002/365

Today's photo was so much bad as it was 'wrong'.  Let me explain... There is this cute little park on the bay that I go to at lunch.  I thought I was just going to take some pictures of crabs or seagulls on the shore, etc... so I took my camera, with the 18-55mm lens, and left the rest of my equipment in the car.  As I strolled up to my favorite place to sit, I saw this bird in the tree. The problem was, I couldn't get close enough to take a good picture because every time I crept closer, he moved farther away.  I was afraid that he would take off by the time I went back to the car to retrieve my telescoping lens so.... this is the best I could do...

Needles to say, I am not real happy with the results.  Enter Photo Explosion (my editting software).  A bit of a crop, and some minor brightness/contract adjustment...

Lesson for the day... remember the Boy Scout motto... always be prepared...

We're on on a roll!

OK, so day 2 and I've already editted this blog about 8 times in the last 45 minutes.  I was trying to add a seperate section for my 365 day project. But will have to settle for it being here, mixed in with my ramblings.

I just got my first DSLR and wanted to do something to challenge me so I can learn to take better, more creative pictures.  I have been mulling over some ideas and have decided to attempt a 365 Project.  I think I'll go with 'A Year of Learning' theme.  It actually is an idea I got from feedback on http://digital-photography-school.com/ . I love the idea but, like everything else I do, I put a little twist on it.

So, here's my twist. I'm thinking of taking my worst picture of the day (so many to choose from.... as I said earlier, I JUST got my new DSLR and am still learning which settings do what) explaining what I did wrong, if I can figure it out, and then trying to correct it in Photo Explosion (a very cheap photo editing program but it has a lot of 'Photoshop'-like features) and explaining what I've done. It will help me learn both my camera and photo editing at the same time.

I'll have to post my first day tonight when I get home.  For now I should wrap this up because it's time to clock in and go to work.... yippee...

Until my next post... Keep smilin'!

My First Post

This is just a test to see if this email to blog thing really works since my carrier isn't supported or doesn't support this blog on mobile. This also will show me where everything goes when I send from here. Which will come in handy when I'm not near my computer. So to complete this experiment, I will add a photo.

This is actually not part of my 365 project.  This would be one of those 'other' times mentioned in the header!

Until my next post... Keep smilin`!
